Our enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy. In contrast, the Holy Spirit asks to be invited in. He is never in a rush, never applies pressure of any kind, and is always patient.
Our enemy encourages self-validation, only to condemn us later. The Holy Spirit encourages humility, and humbling ourselves, so that he can lift us up, and edify us to the place of glory.
Our enemy has no problem with the emancipation of self, the shallow glorification of humanity, since the larger self becomes the less room is there for Christ. The Holy Spirit truthfully advises “putting the self (nature and preferences) to death” so that Christ can live in us instead. (Gal. 2:20)
Our enemy is in favor of tackling the surface, mediating sin, and its visible behavior. The Holy Spirit deals with the root, since the root of anything determines what grows visibly.
Our enemy will help you create stories, excuses, and reasons that explain the present, or intentions that forecast the future. Any effort except for eliminating the root is acceptable to him, as it will weaken our resolve and prolong our slavery. Eventually, the root will surface to light again, and you know that already. The Holy Spirit deals with the present, today, so we can actually have a free future.
Our enemy will whisper thoughts to your mind that say: “You’re only human”. The Holy Spirit whispers to your mind saying: “You’re better than this. You are eternal. Even now, you are seated with Christ in heavenly places.”
Our enemy loves it when he hears us say, “trust yourself”. The Holy Spirit loves it when he hear us say. “I trust God, my heavenly daddy, and his will for my life.”
Our enemy is delighted when we grab hard at our life with all our strength, as if all that is good, all that is delightful is here and now. The Holy Spirit is pleased when we believe that “eye has not seen, and ear has not heard” the life our Father has prepared for us, and are willing to consider this life as the process by which we are turned into the bride of Christ.
